Will Rogers sentences

I’ve just heard about some guy called Will Rogers, a celebrity in the U.S. He describes the Spanish situation with amazing precision and economy of words:

– Every guy just looks in his own pocket and then votes. And the funny part of it is that it’s the last year of an administration that counts. [A president] can have three bad ones and then wind up with everybody having money in the fourth, and the incumbent will win so far he needn’t even stay up to hear the returns. Conditions win elections, not speeches. [This has happened in the past, and will happen again, I fear.]

– Everything is changing. People are taking the comedians seriously and the politicians as a joke. [Is he talking about Jordi Évole?]

– If stupidity got us in this mess, why can’t it get us out? [Is he talking about the economists who are ruling our lives again?]

However, Will Rogers was born in 1879. And he died in 1935. He didn’t even see WWII.

Ya se sabe que quien olvida su historia está condenado a repetirla… Probablemente harán falta muchos años para mejorar un sistema que está tan profundamente corrompido… Y probablemente si vuelven los tiempos mejores la gente “se olvide de ello”
